In 2023, we began working on our latest piece No Man’s Sky. Also in 2023, our son Kosmas was born. In the piece, we wanted to explore the relationship between humans and outer space. Amidst sci-fi narratives and expansion dreams, we were questioning the limits of our desire for more. Inspired by Russian cosmism, we also aimed to create a work that would instill care in the audience through lights, sounds, movements, and projections. It’s difficult to identify how much our new parenthood influenced the piece, as it has become increasingly hard to separate my personal life from my work. Nor am I certain how the constant interruptions—crying, hunger, or sleep—affected the development of the work itself. Released at the premiere of the piece, this magazine addresses many of these themes—processes, care work, invisible labor, collective efforts, unproductive productive work, sleep, and dreams— that directly influenced the content of the work, just like any other artistic choice. >Montserrat Gardó Castillo
